The importance of the 1930's and the roll they played in the world of the automobile.

The 1930's were an important time for the world and the automotive industry. The beginning's of aerodynamic styling , four wheel brakes , radios , balloon tires just to name a few. We all take these features for granted today but, then this was a first. These cars introduced  the first of the V-8 the V-12 and V-16 engines. Today the 1930's are called the classics .

The 1930's  refined the industry of coach building and what a classic car would  become known to be.. The great depression almost killed the industry and  not for a  few artisans and great engineers . The world would have had a struggling industry or a period of no cars.

They created some of the most incredible and exciting machines of the day. Custom coach builders all over the world were changing the way people thought of the car. They took a industry and turned it upside down. Pretty much designed a new excitement  in customers to want to spend money when the world was broke. Dream  cars , custom designed for the most wealthy or the few that could afford them.

The GOLDEN AGE

The golden age of the automobile . You will be surprised  by these most important cars of the decade.

I'1932' Auburn Boat Tail Speedster.

These cars have features that we have in every  modern car in our showrooms today. Moving headlights ,power brakes , automatic transmissions  , starter buttons inside the car. power wipers and that's only a few.

Some of the worlds best known builders , with most still around today.

In I930 , the names of  automobile  companies were many , but only a few became house hold names.  To list a few that made the biggest difference to the industry and the innovations that they brought to the world were  - the 1930 Blackhawk - 1930/31 Bugatti  /43 type -1930/32 Packard - 1930/35 Cadillac - 1930/35 Rolls Royce Phantom II , with a list  of twenty others or more . The 1930's in contrast to the early 1920's saw a renewed emphasis on the quality of coach building , to attract buyers even in the middle of the great depression .

Stream line designs in the 1930's became more like moving art.  Round fenders , modern bodies and innovations . The 1930's brought the world beauty and big muscle.Things that the automotive industry never showed us before.  Remember in those days the manufacturers used very simple high carriage chassis frames. The custom coach builders had to create and re-engineer everything.  The engines and the chassis were the only parts  they wanted  . Every part of the body and style or even the suspension became part of the overall concept. The coach builders with the buyer would set down and design the dream car for them specifically and for what that customer and his needs  wanted. Today we call that a options package. Pretty cool.

By the end of the decade the golden age of automobiles became the classics of today.

The beginning of these cars almost universally  became  to be nothing if not

The beginning of the 1930's , these cars almost universally became to be nothing , if not just boring. As a result of this decade , the mid 30's cars not only saw a major leap forward in technical design , but the design styles that were created for this era of car manufacturing were distinctive and imaginative. The decade unfolded with some of the unique designs that we still identify with the 1930's car. They become so popular by the end of the decade , and would look so much different and  so much better made . They were almost unrecognizable as the same machines.  The modern car was born.

These stories are to keep all car lovers and aficionados , a place to see and remember the most important cars and keep them alive and well for all of us .
