Aston Martin Working on New Supercar !

The evidence suggests a new supercar is in the works at Gaydon.

British automotive supplier Prodrive has revealed it has accepted a £15 million order for carbon-fiber bodywork “for a new supercar,” leading Automobile to venture that order has come in from Aston Martin. So what are the clues that the Aston is working on a new supercar? The first connection is that Prodrive says: “The greatest challenge for component finish is on the interior parts, which use a uniquely tactile surface.” Aston Martin’s One-77 supercar features exposed carbon fiber in the cabin.

Weak argument? OK, the second clue is that Prodrive helps develop Aston Martin Works and customer racing cars, and the third is that the company’s chairman David Richards is also the chairman of Aston Martin. There’s also the fact Prodrive is based in Milton Keynes, UK, which is a short drive away from Aston’s HQ in Gaydon. Previously the carmaker had used Canadian firm Multimatic Inc. to build its carbon-fiber tubs for the ultra-exclusive One-77, V12 Zagato and CC100 Speedster concept. But with money being tight, perhaps a company closer to home made more economic sense.

Prodrive said it will build “premium components for supercars in volumes of a few hundred.” Whether that will be a new limited-run supercar like the One-77 or a special variant of one of Aston’s flagships remains to be seen. That is of course if Aston Martin is behind this order in the first place, a highly contentious issue in itself.
